Society for the Advancement of Biology Education Research (SABER) Annual Conference
SABER is dedicated to enhancing Biology Education Research (BER) and the annual meeting is the premier conference for Undergraduate Biology Education Research. By attending this conference I have got the opportunity to engage with people who have pioneered a lot of the research in this field and have discussions about questions and ideas that are not only interesting but are highly relevant to teaching and learning biology at the undergraduate.
I have attended in 2016, 2018 and 2020.
Peer-reviewed Oral Presentations:
de Lima, J., Long, T. M. 2020. Mode of Representation Influences Content of Student Responses.
de Lima, J., Long, T. M. 2018. Contextual Differences Influence Model Architecture
de Lima, J., Distin, M.§, Long, T. M. 2016. Contextual Differences Influence Student Reasoning about Natural Selection.
Peer-reviewed Posters:
de Lima, J., Kjelvik, M., Schultheis, E., Mead, L., Long, T.M. 2016. Adapting Data Nuggets for College Introductory Biology Courses.
European Science Education Research Association (ESERA) Conference
This Research Conference is designed to bring together people who study multiple aspects of science education, including all forms (formal/informal/nonformal) and stages (elementary to higher education).
I have attended this conference 2019.
Peer-reviewed Oral Presentation:
de Lima, J., Long, T. M. 2019. Influence of Context on the Architecture of Student-Generated Models in an Undergraduate Introductory Biology Course
European Education Research Association (EERA) Conference
This Research Conference is designed to bring together people who study multiple aspects of education, including all forms (formal/informal/nonformal) and stages (elementary to higher education) and disciplines.
I have attended this conference 2019.
Peer-reviewed Oral Presentation:
de Lima, J., Thomas, M. K., Long, T. M. 2019. Influence of Context on the Architecture of Student-Generated Models in Undergraduate Introductory Biology Courses.
Gordon Research Conference/Symposium: Undergraduate Biology Education Research
This Gordon Research Conference is designed to bring together people who not only teach and research biology education at the undergraduate level, but also those involved in creating policies that influence the same. The goal of the conference was to improve our understanding of the workings of biology education so that we could promote diversity and persistence.
I have attended this conference and symposium in 2017 and 2019.
Peer-reviewed Posters:
de Lima, J., Long, T. M. 2019. Student constructed models: factors that predict the ‘who’ and influence the ‘what’.
de Lima, J., Long, T. M. 2019. Factors predicting students' attempts at model construction.
de Lima, J., Distin, M.§, Long, T. M. Contextual Influences on Student Reasoning about Natural Selection.
MSU Graduate Teaching and Learning Fellows Poster Symposium
This is an opportunity for the fellows of all the cohort-based teaching fellowships at MSU to share their research.
I have attended this symposium in 2018 and 2019.
Poster:
de Lima, J., Long, T. M. 2019. Factors predicting students' attempts at model construction.
de Lima, J., Long, T. M. 2018. Influence of context on the architecture of student generated models in an Intro-bio course.
Future Academic Scholars in Teaching (FAST) Fellowship Program Annual Symposium
This Symposium is held at the end of the fellowship period and is an opportunity for the fellows to present the Teaching-as-Research (TAR) projects that they have been working on throughout that year.
I presented my research in 2018 and 2019.
Contributed Oral Presentation:
de Lima, J. 2019. Student constructed models: factors that predict the ‘who’ and influence the ‘what’
de Lima, J. 2018. Influence of context on the architecture of student-generated models in an intro-bio course.
