Teaching Portfolio
Touching tomorrow through effective teaching

This section of my website is intended to showcase my interest in teaching and learning in general and my growth as an undergraduate biology educator and researcher in particular.

It is designed to fulfill the requirements for Certification in College Teaching from the Graduate School and the College of Natural Science, Michigan State University.
First, I have demonstrated how I have achieved each of the 5 competencies that are required for this certification.
  • Developing Discipline-Related Teaching Strategies
  • Creating Effective Learning Environments
  • Incorporating Technology in Your Teaching
  • Understanding the University Context
  • Assessing Student Learning
In the research section, I have described the mentored-research project that explores the influence of context on student responses.
I have had the opportunity to observe active learning strategies in large-enrollment classes and gain experience by practicing what I have learnt.
Giving back to the community has always been very important to me. In the Pro Bono section, I will describe the opportunities that were given to me to communicate science and science education research, and best-practices in teaching and learning.
Since teaching and learning is a dynamic and ongoing process, the endeavor to understand the bedrock and nuances of the same is also dynamic and ongoing. I have addressed the ways in which I have attempted to do so in the Professional Development section.
  • I have described the Courses that I have taken, both at MSU and before that have informed be as an educator and an education researcher.
  • Conferences, Symposia, Workshops and Seminars on topics related to teaching and learning have allowed me to interact with and share ideas with people who are similarly interested in biology education.
  • The Future Academic Scholars in Teaching (FAST) Fellowship at MSU has given me a community and a platform to engage in teaching-as-research (TAR).
  • I have had various opportunities to develop materials for biology education and outreach.
Finally, I have reflected on what it means to me to be an educator in my Teaching Philosophy.
